It is Heritage Open Day season. The theme this year is Edible England.

So in keeping with the theme, the painting we are showing today is entitled ‘Rabbiting on Lytham Sandhills’ by Richard Ansdell R.A. Painted in 1878.

The painting depicts the famous Sandhills that Ansdell loved so much. It gives us a sense of what the landscape must have looked like at that time and how it was used for communal grazing and hunting rabbits to supplement the family dinner table.
