Food for Thought: Richard Ansdell in a Culinary Context 24th May – 1st July 2018

We are delighted that our next exhibition of items from the Art Collection will feature paintings by Richard Ansdell. His paintings of animals are superb and we are lucky to have so many of them in our Collection.

Some of them, not surprisingly, feature dead animals because Ansdell painted hunting scenes which were very familiar in his time. Unfortunately, they do not appeal to everyone.

Today we farm animals and process them for food on our tables in quite a different way than was done then. Rather than deny the fact, we have chosen to highlight the connection and hope that it will be understood and appreciated in that context.

Great care has been taken with the display to portray this as sensitively as possible.
