The Italian Flower Girl is a beautiful oil on canvas painted by Eugene de Blaas 1843-1932. Born in Italy to Austrian parents and a family of accomplished artists, he was trained in the school known as Academic Classicism.
He offen painted Venetian scenes, religious subjects and portraits depicting people of Venice.
An exhibitor at the Royal Academy his paintings may be seen in many museums and art galleries and are sold for high prices.
The painting was donated in November 1941 by Mrs. Alice Maud Bibby in memory of her late husband Thomas Percy Bibby 1877-1937.
Born in Preston, Lancashire he owned the cotton mill, Balderstone Mill, Freckleton which employed many young Wharton women to run its 320 looms.
