‘Portrait of an Artist’ is an oil on canvas painted by French artist and engraver, Francois de Troy, (1645-1730).
It depicts his son, Jean Francois de Troy, also an artist. It is only recently that the artist was identified as the painting had previously been attributed to Hyacinthe Rigaud.
The donor was Darren born antique dealer, Alfred Daley, 1894-1960. He and his wife, Gertrude, settled on the Fylde where their children,
Pauline and William Richard were born.
Sadly William, a Sergeant Pilot in the RAF 101 Squadron, lost his life in 1941. His memorial is at Runnymede.
