Shore Scene with Boats, Cornwall was painted by London born artist, Frank Hider, 1861-1933.
He studied at the Heatherleys Art School and this oil on canvas is typical of his work. He travelled widely painting rural landscapes and coastal scenes in both watercolours and oils. Although prolific he rarely exhibited.
He belonged to the Burnham Beeches colony of artists in Buckinghamshire.
Today his work is sold regularly at top auction houses.
Two of his children, Mabel and Christopher, became artists and their work is often misattributed to their father.
The painting was donated in 1954 by Charles Lewis Snelson, 1872 – 1960, a head teacher who had retired to the Fylde coast.
