The Long Causeway, looking back to Heptonstall, Yorkshire.
The artist, Stanley Warburton, (1919-2012) was born in Heywood, Lancashire. He retired to Lytham St Annes in the early 1990s.
Painting both watercolour and oil, his speciality was landscapes particularly of the towns and villages in his beloved South Pennines.
His work has been the subject of several exhibitions in the North including one in The Fylde Gallery, Lytham in 2012.
Heptonstall is a small Yorkshire village in the Upper Calder Valley. In this watercolour the artist uses a subdued palette to great effect. The road is central to the subject and leads the viewer on a journey over moorland and on to higher ground.
