A Yorkshire Terrier. This charming oil on board is attributed to Thomas William Earl (1815-1890).

He was a member of a talented family of artists specialising in animal paintings. Prolific in his output he exhibited at the Royal Academy, the British Institution and the Society of British Artists.

The painting was donated by Richard Ernest Eckersley 1877-1944. A Manchester born bank clerk he relocated to the Fylde and bequeathed several paintings to the Borough of Lytham St Annes.
