Derelict Treales Mill

This atmospheric watercolour was painted by Rochdale born artist, Walter Eastwood (1867-1943). It was exhibited at the Royal Academy’s annual exhibition at Plas Mawr in 1931 and donated to the Collection by Lytham St Annes Art Society in 1937.

The artist came to live in Lytham in 1902 and set up an art shop where he sold art materials and his own paintings. He was a prolific artist and exhibited at many prestigious galleries including the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool.

A founder member and first president of the Lytham St Annes Art Society, and a distinguished member of the community, he is buried at St Cuthbert’s Church, Lytham.
