Seabirds by William Fitton (1867-1941)

This unusual Portrait Cartoon executed in pen and ink has raised many questions.

The drawing is signed W. Fitton 1930. The frame is inscribed W. Jagger, President 1929/30.

The artist, William Fitton (1867-1941) was born in Shaw, Lancashire and became a headteacher in Preston before retiring to Lytham St Annes. His work was displayed in Lancashire Artists exhibitions.

This drawing, obviously of a seaside, may denote a cricket team, though we do not know for sure. Willian Fitton was a keen cricketer. Who was W. Jagger? We have found that a William Jagger lived in St Annes at the same time as Fitton.
